I first came into contact with Human Design maybe about nine or ten years ago. I didn’t pay very much attention to it at all. If anything, I thought it was just another system, another mechanism someone, somewhere, had invented in order to profile and box people. It seemed like a lazy answer, a crutch even, for those needing to be told who they are. Human Design came in and out of my field of awareness a few times in the intervening years, but it wasn’t until 2021 that I really sat up and took notice. In fact, rather than sit up, you could say I plunged into and drowned myself in it, obsessively.
When I resurfaced for air I can honestly say I emerged a different person. One perhaps I wasn’t ready to be all those years ago, but which laughably, would have made life a whole lot easier.
Some are concerned that Human Design offers no scope for a personality or subconscious that is not predetermined; that if it is accurate, who we are is formed long before any choice or free will is involved. This, they find uncomfortable.
What I have come to realise however, is that Human Design is a blueprint that enables us to clearly see what part of our life is self-structured and which part is conditioned by society, and usually counterintuitive to our ideal and authentic self. Human Design is a system based on who we are, it shows us how best to interact with our environment and wider world. In the same way certain people arrive with a gift for maths, a passion for music or exceptional ability in sports; knowing one’s Human Design is simply a basis that we can nurture and watch flourish, if we pay it enough attention.
The biggest lesson for me, was learning that my strategy in this life is largely to respond. For someone so used to initiating it made perfect, frustrating sense, when looking back on my successes and failures in life. Fully integrating this knowledge as well as much more, has lead me to a deeper level of peace in life. If you have the opportunity to experience it, I urge you to do so and to take it seriously. If you are a parent also, raising children according to their design is one of the most valuable gifts there is.
